There are three areas of concern that we need to be watching in the Atlantic region those designated there on the map
Rain Chances Staying Low ?
Besides the Tennessee Valley most other regions of the country to stay dry especially in the wild fire stricken west. Midwest has growing drought issues as the crops are maturing. Below normal rains right now might have a serious impact on crop yields. Agriculture Economics and Weather go hand in hand.
Chicago has more 90 degree Chances This Week
We have broken out of a heat wave that was the longest in nearly 3 + years around the metro area as we have welcomed cooler and drier air. 90s though look to be poised to come back into our future Wednesday and Thursday possibly this week. The humidities should stay low so won’t feel as terrible. The rest of the week looks nice and seasonable and some upper 40s on guidance packages start showing up in northern Wisconsin as we hit Labor Day weekend next weekend.

Phoenix at 50 110+ Degree Days
The AZ Desert has blown past the previous record set back in 2011 of 33 110+ degree days. 50 and counting maybe there will be a few more scattered in there for the season but with days now starting to shorten quickly now coming into September the likelihood is on the decrease.

Severe Weather Fails to Materialize
31 90s on the Season Are any more possible
31 90 degree days in Chicago this warm season so far but I have a feeling from the way this past winter and summer have been trending that we have not seen our last 90. We will certainly see more seasonable temperatures as we move into September. It’s hard to believe that September is here already. We have seen warmth into mid September before and early October. Hope that the cool season does not arrive to hastily this year.

Chicago Inks Another 90 Degree Day
With the smoke off the California and other western states wild fires the smoke though not very visible to our eyes has limited the clarity of the skies some that reduced the temperature today for seeing the temperature make it all the way to the upper 90s. Yes we reached the low to mid 90s across the metro area and put the 29th day of 90s in the books around here for the 2020 summer season. How ever after Friday the warmth will give way to some near normal conditions over the weekend.

A 98 Degree not Seen In Chicago Since July 2012
With the forecasted high temperature of 98 degrees forecast for Wednesday August 26th 2020 this would be the first time if we achieve a 98 Degree High Since July 25th 2012 so more than 8 years IF and it is a BIG IF we get to 100 which is possible. Then we would look even further back into the record books of 2012.
Chicago Doubles Normal 90 Degree Day Count
Early morning conditions slowed the warming of the day with clouds and easterly winds but yet in the final hours of heating of the day we managed to squeak out a 91 degree high temperature. This is now the 28th time this year that the mercury has soared above the 90 degree mark. Normal number of 90s in a season is 14 at Ohare field. There are more 90s in the forecast through Friday. This would bring the count up to 32 days. Seeing as warm this summer has been sitting at the warmest all time combining June July and August, I would not doubt that we were to see more 90s in September as well.
A Cloudy Start to Tuesday Gives way to Ample Sunshine
With the cloudy beginning of the day on Tuesday it was thought that it was not going to make the 90 degree mark here today. But as the clouds gave way even with a stiff Easterly wind off Lake Michigan the sunshine proved too much for even the east wind with the heat of this air mass. Early in the day it appeared that we would only reach the upper 80s as 89 had been the high temperature. But Mother Nature said no we will make it above 90 again as the temp notched 91 degrees as a high. More hot weather through Friday of this week before near normal conditions lock in over the weekend.

Hurricane Laura’s Peak Storm Surge Expected
In hurricanes you want to thing of them on a Cartesian coordinate 4 quadrant piece of graph paper. You never want to be on the right front quadrant of a hurricane as that is where all the storm surge and highest winds pile up and gets the brunt of the storm besides when and where the eye wall strikes.

That record as of right now will still stand until we get the official tally in from the National Weather Service in Romeoville. 97 Degrees so far the Record high is 100 degrees on this date.

August 2020 Monthly Rankings On the Increase
August 2020 is currently sitting in 16th place but after this week we will probably see August move up the all time monthly rankings closing to maybe a top 3 finisher in the temperature department. With temperatures nearly 20 above normal should make this happen easily. Will Likely finish a Top 5 hottest August on Record in Chicago.
Chicago get 27th 90 of the year as of 11 AM
Chicago has eclipsed the 90 degree mark for the 27th time this year adding to a season with totals running 2 x normal of what we typically see in a season. Plenty more 90s on tap for the week. Most places have 92-94 degrees today. I believe with the dry soils and the power of this hot air mass influenced by 2 tropical systems that we will get closer to 96 today.
